Fall road trip planning

As summer has  come to an end and fall is in full swing, it’s the perfect time to plan your autumn road trip.

As an EV owner, there are a few important things to keep in mind as you prepare to enjoy the stunning fall foliage and scenic East Coast views.

Our first reminder is that mindful route planning can play a key role in the success of your trip. Before you set out, make sure to use resources like PlugShare to find charging stations along your route. Traveling with an EV requires some planning, but it’s well worth the effort.

The fall months offer moderate temperatures, meaning your EV won’t lose range due to the extreme cold more typical of winter. This results in greater power efficiency throughout your journey. Pre-conditioning your battery can ensure optimal performance, especially if temperatures start to dip. Pre-conditioning your EV battery involves adjusting its temperature before driving or charging. This helps maintain the battery’s efficiency and range and can usually being done using the EV’s app or setting climate control. Additionally, make the most of regenerative braking on downhill stretches to maximize your range. This feature in electric vehicles recaptures energy usually lost during braking and recharges the battery. By converting the vehicle’s movement (kinetic energy) back into stored energy, it helps extend your driving distance.”

While EVs are ideal for road trips, why not take it a step further and go glamping? With your EV’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities, you can power your entire campsite, including lights, electronics and other essentials. Your vehicle is a reliable power source that can enhance your outdoor experience.

Using an EV for your road trip also has significant environmental benefits. EVs produce zero emissions, reducing your carbon footprint and helping to preserve the beautiful natural landscapes you’re exploring. By choosing an electric vehicle, you’re contributing to cleaner air and a healthier planet, ensuring that the stunning fall scenery remains beautiful for generations to come.
